Walters Legacy Society
Miami Children’s Health Foundation founder Ambassador David M. Walters faced the tragic loss of his 6-year-old granddaughter Shannon Joy which changed the course of his life. His self-sacrifice and perseverance helped establish one of the nation’s top pediatric medical facilities, making it possible for children to receive world-class healthcare without leaving Florida.
With the support of expert physicians, a dedicated staff and a caring community, Ambassador Walters devoted his life to raising the funds necessary to expand, improve and support the medical facilities and programs at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital until his retirement in 2002. Ambassador Walters continued his mission as a volunteer until his death in 2005.
Miami Children’s Health Foundation continues Ambassador Walters’ dream of supporting a world-class pediatric medical facility through its fundraising efforts.
