The Miami Children’s Health Foundation’s 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk (MCHF5K) presented by Sabadell United Bank brought together more than 5,500 runners, walkers and spectators in Coral Gables for a family fun-filled event, which included a Kids Fun Zone, Vendor Village and a Kids Race. Since its inception, the 5K Run/Walk has raised over $2 million dollars for Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

The top male finisher was Ethan Clary with winning time 16.01 and Laura Aleman was the top female finisher at 19.32. The top ‘FUN’raising teams were REVA Inc. and Sebastian Mas, who exceeded their teams’ goals of $10,000 each.

The MCHF5K is the Foundation’s largest annual community event, featuring several ‘FUN’raising teams who raise awareness and funds for current and former patients of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. The event brought together participants from all over South Florida looking to make a difference.

This year’s MCHF5K hero, cancer survivor Melanie, inspired participants to cross the finish line in support of children like her. Melanie motivated the crowd before the start of the MCHF5K and walked with #TeamMeli. At the age of 12, Melanie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and since then, she’s had to face challenges that many other teens will never know.

“I want to congratulate the MCHF5K participants who ran and walked for the children of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital,” said Lucy Morillo, president and CEO
of the Miami Children’s Health Foundation. “Our MCHF5K hero, Melanie, is an inspiration to all of us and serves as a prime example of why the community
must come together for the children. We are very thankful for our event sponsors, board members and volunteers for supporting the mission of the Miami Children’s Health Foundation.“

Every donation counts and with the ongoing support from the community, it is possible for the Miami Children’s Health Foundation to continue funding research, equipment and other projects that allow Nicklaus Children's Hospital to provide the highest level of healthcare to children for years to come.

Longtime supporter of the MCH Foundation, Beatriz Canals, Emmy nominated journalist and mom of two, served as Master of Ceremonies. Also at the event, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, State Representative Jose Javier Rodriguez, and Commissioner Vince Lago presented proclamations to commemorate the special occasion.

The MCHF5K would not be possible without the support of several sponsors, including Sabadell United Bank, Winn Dixie, YouFit, One Sotheby’s Realty International, Miami Marlins, Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables, Rock Orange, Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton, Perry Ellis International, REVA Inc., FPL, Iron Mountain, RE/Max Advance Realty and Microsoft. Univision 23, WSVN Channel 7, KIDDOS Magazine, Fitness For You, the  City of Coral Gables, iHeart Radio and The Miami Herald/Nuevo Herald also served as media sponsors for the MCHF5K.

The AT&T Foundation gave a generous donation of $25,000 to Nicklaus Children’s Healthy Chicas program, a nutrition and fitness program for Hispanic; adolescent girls ages 12 – 12-18 that identify as being at risk for obesity. This interactive, educational program is designed to prevent weight-related problems
and reduce unhealthy weight gain by promoting physical activity, healthy eating habits, and improving family communication of healthy lifestyles.
