Build a new Nicklaus Children's Emergency Department
Nearly 100,000 patients are treated annually at the Nicklaus Children's Emergency Department (ED). That’s nearly 274 children each day. The existing ED was designed for just 30,000 visits a year and we’re now Florida’s third busiest ED in the country! The 47,000 sq. ft. expansion and enhancement of the ED will have a significant impact on the families of our community and the growing number of international families choosing Nicklaus Children's for their child’s emergency care. This new larger, much more efficient ED will cut valuable seconds from life-saving care.
The advanced care environment and specialized treatment zones – South Florida’s only free-standing Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, Fast Track, Rapid Care Area, Critical Care Center, Safe Zone, X-Ray, Fracture Care Clinic and Diamond Society Suite – optimize outcomes, maximize safety, enhance patient flow and expedite care. With a 5,000 square foot Lobby with family seating, dedicated entertainment zones for children of all ages and enhanced access to nurses and physicians in every care area, the new ED serves our families better and simply save more lives.
