INAUGURAL MIAMI CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL 5K RUN/WALK PRESENTED BY TOTALBANK ATTRACTS NEARLY 3,000 SUPPORTERS

CORAL GABLES - Nearly 3,000 men, women and children came out to support a worthy cause at the Inaugural Miami Children’s Hospital 5K Run/Walk presented by TotalBank.

MCH5Kboxlogo.jpgHeld on Saturday, September 24, the event served as one of the largest community events in Miami Children’s Hospital’s more than 60-year history, raising more than $200,000 for Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“When we started planning for this event, we could only have hoped to receive such an amazing response from both our community and our employees,” said Dr. M. Narendra Kini, President & CEO, Miami Children’s Hospital, addressing the excited crowd.

“This goes to show that Miami Children’s Hospital makes a difference in countless lives and thanks to your support we will be able to continue providing world-class care to the children from our backyard and beyond,” added Lucy Morillo-Agnetti, Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation President & CEO.

The event featured a timed 3.1 mile run and walk and entertainment for the whole family.

Myles Murphy of Miami Beach was the top male finisher at 16:59.9 and “Totally for Children” team member Angelique Portugues of Miami was the top female finisher at 20:19:6.

“Totally for Children” from TotalBank won the awards for the Largest Team and Top Overall Fundraising Team.

CBS4 Chief Investigative Reporter and Adopt-A-Bear Founder Michele Gillen and media partner Easy 93.1 Morning Show DJ Jennifer Garcia served as co-emcees. The J Sisters, Jessica and Juliana, performed the National Anthem.

Coral Gables Mayor Jim Cason presented a proclamation to Morillo-Agnetti and Dr. Kini declaring it “Miami Children’s Hospital 5K Day” in the City of Coral Gables.

The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, Billy the Marlin (Florida Marlins), Nat Deliman (National Deli) and the O’Bryan, the Adopt-A-Bear mascot played with the children in the Kids Zone sponsored by Coca-Cola and Navarro Discount Pharmacy.

The event featured exhibits highlighting Miami Children’s Hospital’s many specialties and departments as well as a Sponsors Village with booths showcasing the events numerous corporate partners.

Event partners included presenting sponsor TotalBank, Kids Zone sponsors Coca-Cola and Navarro Discount Pharmacy, T-shirt sponsors Florida Marlins, media partner Easy 93.1, and partners Badia, National Deli, Adopt-A-Bear, BankUnited, South Dade Neonatology, EverBank, Seitlin, All-Med Services, Excel Sports, Equinox, Dade Medical College, Publix, First United Methodist Church and Liberty Caffé.
