Cancer Caroline was diagnosed with leukemia in late December 2010 and began receiving chemotherapy on Christmas Eve at Miami Children’s Hospital’s Cancer Center. Her family was by her side the entire time.
After losing the hair she loved as a result of her treatments, Caroline became self-conscious and began wearing a wig. However, when musician Armando “Pitbull” Perez visited Miami Children’s in July, she was inspired to shed her wig for the first time publicly.
Caroline did not turn back and now fully embraces Miami Children’s and Pitbull’s mantra of “Bald, Brave, Beautiful,” going without her wig everywhere she goes.
Thankfully, Caroline’s final chemotherapy treatment was this summer and a bone marrow biopsy tested negative, indicating she is cancer free. She was even able to start high school with her classmates in the fall and serves as a mentor to other girls facing hair loss and cancer.
Together we can make a difference in the life of a child today!
