Christina's Story

Congenital Heart Defect and Collapsed Lung

Christina after.jpgAfter surviving a congenital heart defect, a collapsed lung and the migration of her intestines to her chest as a newborn, Christina Bukata truly is a “Miracle Child.” Given the opportunity of going to Disney World to celebrate her 16th birthday, Christina instead chose to give back to the hospital that saved her life. She and her family hosted a Miracle Beach Bash raising more than $20,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® program at Miami Children’s. This was the third fundraiser held by the Bukata family.

As a newborn, Christina spent weeks at Miami Children’s. Despite the possibility of having to remove Christina’s collapsed left lung, she was taken home with a feeding tube. Two days later, Christina’s feeding tube was removed and her lung went on to grow normally.

She is now a healthy 10th grader who enjoys running, making videos and playing baseball and soccer.

Together we can make a difference in the life of a child today!
